I love the 1098/1198! It's what the 999 should've been... I hated the 999 too..... what's a South African guy doing designing an Italian bike anyway?

wow Im dumb lol (ninja edit) yeah I dont know what Ducati was thinking... and some people think it looks so awesome.... I just cant stand that bike. they got it right now tho thats for sure.

Thanks for the vid! The tilted viewing angle at the end, you can tell why the super amoled out shined the LG retina lcd.

Btw, I didn't realize how tiny the iphone 4 screen is in comparison to our galaxy s.

Yeah the Vibrant's huge next to it... my wife makes fun of my "girly iPhone" so I put an Otterbox Defender case on it.... that helped, a little... ;) At least I don't pay for it!

New video uploading now, should be done in an hour. This time it's Monsters, Inc. The Vibrant really outshines the iPhone4 with this movie. I'll post a link here when I wake up or you can search for it.

No problem, thanks for posting the link.

My wife showed off the movie on her phone to her coworkers. She said all the nurses on shift were surrounding her phone, getting no work done. :)

Btw, I don't think Avatar does the Super AMOLED screen justice. Try "A Walk in the Clouds", "Elizabeth" & "Elizabeth the Golden Age". The cinematic color in these movies will knock your socks off!

Thanks for these comparisons! It's really interesting to see how the Galaxy S outshines the iPhone 4.

Ironically enough, my brother is an iPhone fanboy. He's 30, knows nothing about tech, but says the iPhone 4 that he just got is superior to everything else out there in every respect. Wait till I bring my Vibrant up to his place in L.A....

No problem. I got tired of seeing thousands of so-called "shootouts" on youtube and decided to put some meat into it... How annoying is 15 min of some clown flipping the phone over 37 times, making hand gestures and flailing about, regurgitating all the specs that are already in the public domain? Stop the madness...

Hi,

I am a new smart phone/android user, used to have a razor. I got my vibrant on Sunday evening and accidentally erased Avatar on Tuesday :(. I am ubber sad. My husband also got a vibrant. I talked to a rep at TMo and he said I can copy the avatar.dcf file to my computer and then copy the movie to my phone (used more steps than that, I just wrote the basics). I tried to load the movie to my computer today before hubby had to go to work but it did not work. My computer said I do not have the supporting software. I was wondering if I can put my husband's SD card in my phone, copy the movie onto my phones memory then remove his card, replace my card then transfer the movie from my phones memory onto my SD card? The "movie" folder is still on my phone, if I put it in there will the Avatar icon still work to load the movie?

Thanks in advance for any help provided. I feel like such an idiot. I usually double check before deleting something and this time I didn't. :(

You've probably done this by now, but yes.

I got the phone second-hand and when I click avatar, it says the movie isn't there...
how can i get it back?

Also ...from what i understand, do I have 16 GB of internal memory + whatever MICRO SD card I put in?

Thanks!

You need to find the Avatar.dcm file somewhere. Maybe somebody here who has a web server would be nice enough to share theirs, or possibly a T-Mobile store can help you out.

Correct. With 2GB of that 16GB for installing apps.

Hi was wondering if someone would be kind enough to share the original dcf file? Or maybe if duc would be kind enough to share is killer encode! ;)

Vibrant (Froyo)

My own avatar.mkv (extended)
Works Flawlessly with no lag.
Resolution does not need to be 800x480 or whatever "they" say!

SUBTITLES
Hardsubbed with the yellow-mustard colored Papyrus .ASS subs

*VIDEO- You can set your own bit rate (about 1000Kbps will give you about a 1GB movie not including audio)

**AUDIO- You can use HE-AAC+PS (smallest in size, no change in volume - this is what I used), HE-AAC or LC-AAC (HE is mid size and LC is largest). IMPORTANT- MUST be in either Stereo, Dolby Pro Logic or Dolby Pro Logic II, don't waste your time with AC3 2 or 6ch. with MP4 or MKV because it doesn't work.

For best experience use MEGUI, grab yourself a nice codec pack, I used K-Lite (full) and Nero AAC codecs (place Nero in a folder in tools in MEGUI and go to the programs external settings and point Nero to the correct path)

If you transcode for Vibrant it is better to set encode for 800 x 480 screen. Higher resolution just makes Vibrant down sample and interpolate which besides taking a bit more battery power may add some artifacts.

I use MediaCoder. It has a lot of 'dials' but once you figure it out it does a good job. Target about 1.5 GByte file size. MediaCoder has several options for H.264 encoding, using the target file size is easiest. It also has Cuda accelerator support if you have an nVidia graphics card in your computer. Using the accelerator helps speed transcoding. It reduces CPU loading significantly. You can batch up several movies before you go to bed for the night and have them cooked and ready by breakfast.

H.264 is very CPU intensive to encode but yields significantly smaller file size for equivalent quality of picture. I use LC-AAC for audio encoding.

What you're talking about is so minute that it almost makes no difference, wether it be downsampling, interpolating, battery power or artifacts. It's just a vibrant, I'm not gonna sit down with the family. The other thing is most of us already have movies ready and don't wanna wait for hours of re-encoding just to transfer it to our phone, it's not gonna sit on my phone forever, just til I finish watching it. So for me it takes less than 15 minutes to get one of my movies to my phone that's ready to watch. I don't have to wait til breakfast. And my version of avatar is much sharper than the one that it came with. I am simply stating unless your phone is the only place you watch movies then it's unnecessary to re-encode everytime. So either way what it really depends on is the user, atleast now they have 2 more helpful pieces of info to help them decide what's best for them.

Mediacoder huh.. Think I will check that out, I'm interested in that cuda thing with nVidia.

I would suggest trying the phone store.

Just a reminder to all that we do not allow the posting of or linking to copyright material.
