Average Phone Storage on Your EVO?

i think the bean counters do a calculation and estimate the sweet spot of need vs. demand vs. cost vs. target selling price vs. profits and they run with it.

I think this is right on the money. I would be interested in knowing how they figure "need" though. It seems like there are for more non-knowledgable people than there are knowledgable ones in terms of Android owners. Those are the people that load everything under the sun onto their phones and wonder why they get a low memory warning. I guess my point is, hove you ever heard ANYONE complain about TOO MUCH memory? :D

my guess would be the 80/20 rule. stretching, twisting, and extrapolating that rule i'd say that 80% of Android users use less than 20% of their available storage and the other 20% use greater than 80% of their available storage. i bet i'm not that far off! i hung out with a chick this weekend who had a Droid 1. she barely had any apps or data on it. of course - i helped her out.

That's suprising. We must be hanging out with different groups of people. Everyone I know wants to download (and keep ) everything under the sun! My girlfriend especially. Once she downloads an app, if she EVER in a MILLION YEARS thinks she will use it again she refuses to get rid of it LOL.

This is likely closer to the reason at hand. I would like to point out that I am not saying they need/should stop production, redesign, add more storage, etc. and then start an EVO 1.1 model. What I am saying is that these companies seem to be cheaping out. Let's take the nexus S as an example. I think everyone would love to see something like that, but with an additional SD card slot.

And that just goes to show you that they will all cheap out when possible. Samsung did something brilliant, and then cut a corner by leaving off the card slot.

I am not completely sure whether they cut a corner here or not. I imagine the card slot taking up more space, which would have required the phone to be thicker; phones are clearly going the other way (thin isn't ever thin enough!) They also may have been trying to test the market a bit as far as seeing how well this product would do compared to iPhones compared to the previous product. iPhone has certainly sold well and has never had removable storage. Sadly, the very first iPhone still had more onboard storage than 99% of CUREENT DAY Android phones out there. This is more than a little bit sad IMO.

I've read a few threads about other devices averaging 80-120mb of free ram. Is this the average for the HTC EVO? Strangely enough, I usually either have under 80mb, or over 120mb.

yeah.. that is what i have.... between... 80-120mb.... depending what I have active or what i have just ran.

if I use a lot of big apps ... it drops to 80... then if I leave it alone.... next time I pick it up... it would go back up to around 112.

Have root and run MIKFROYO 4.5 flashed Calkulins Recovery Custom MTD and Calkulins Boot Custom MTD after reboot have 520mb of phone storage...couldn't believe it myself ! Works and phone is FAST. Benchmarked at 33-35 mflops at only 886 mhz! Have roughly 20 apps and ALL of Gloft HD games installed.

Could someone help me with storage on my EVO? Mine is NOT rooted. Here's the storage breakdown using Quick System Info:

SD card storage: Total: 7.39GB, Free: 3.55GB
A2SD Storage: Total: 155MB, Free: 63.17MB
Internal Storage: 428MB, Free: 73.14MB
System Storage: Total: 350MB, Free: 60.2MB
System Cache: Total: 160MB, Free: 141MB
Memory: Total: 415MB, Free: 110MB, Idle: 21.70MB

and FYI:

Processor: ARMv7 Processor rev 2 (v71) 998.4MHz

I got a low memory warning today, so I installed Apps2SD and transferred what I could to my 8GB SD card, but it still looks like I don't have much memory to work with - or am I wrong?

I just got my EVO 2 weeks ago and of course have been downloading about every app I can find. I've read some tips in this thread that I think will help like clearing out the cache for Dolphin Browser, etc.

Can anyone help me free up more memory? IS this why my EVO has slowed down? For example, when I long-touch on a homescreen and select widgets, it takes 10 seconds for them to appear. And all animations are slower, etc.

I want to speed things up again without doing a hard reset or rooting. Can it be done?

Thanks - and be gentle I'm a newbie. LOL

Jerry
