Avoid cheap imitations such as androidforums.com.ar

Dear valued members,

It has recently come to our attention that this site is being 'scraped' in its entirety by at least one 'typojacking' domain. It is identical in appearance as it effectively copies the entire AndroidForums site, and only the additional top-level domain suffix in the browser address bar gives the game away.

Please take care when using hyperlinks, and especially when logging-in, as these low-lifes may be grabbing username/pwd details; the genuine domain is androidforums[dot]com only. Anything else is a poor and shady imitation and should not be trusted. If they stoop this low who knows what else they're prepared to do?

Booooo! I guess they just wanted to be closer to the most friendly site on the net. They must have missed the "Join" button.


Also, anyone wanting to completely avoid this could add an entry similar to this in their hosts file:

# Windows XP hosts: C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts
#Linux hosts (likely mac too):  /etc/hosts
127.0.0.1  androidforums.com.ar

or even better

173.192.24.228    androidforums.com.ar

This one will take you to the real androidforums.com address instead of the fake.

though, ip addresses could change over time....

It has just come to our attention that 'androidforums.com.ar' is again cloning our website. Please be extra cautious, as their site will show up alongside genuine Android Forums results in google. Do NOT try to log into any domain except "androidforums.com". Please read the first post of this thread by Slug if you haven't already.

We've got rid of them once already, and we'll do it again ASAP, but we thank you for your patience on this matter.

Some people have way to much free time on their hands, Its insane that someone would clone this forum almost down to the last ad.

There has to be some kind of copyright on the logo or something to where you could take them down for good. Not trying to be mean or anything but they kind of deserve it. I'm sure the site is malicious, and doing something like that has to be illegal.
