Avoid Vodafone branding software?

I'm buying a Desire from ebay which is 'unlocked' however it also states to be a Vodafone branded phone.
I have heard many negative comments regarding the phone's branded software and unwanted apps with Vodafone branded Desires, but I am hoping to use my O2 sim card in the 'unlocked' phone so will I still get the Vodafone updates?

I am hoping not!

There are 2 versions of the Vodafone branding - full on and none at all

Full on will have Vodafone splash screens, demo apps that can't be uninstalled and other crap

None at all (the first FroYo update) will have no branding at all BUT will still be running with a Vodafone product code so you'd still be waiting on Vodafone to release updates for it

Try and get a SIM free phone as you won't have any issues. Quite tempted to sell my one to get a Desire S

If the phone has the full branding, will the FroYo update wash all that out? Also, does the Vodafone restrict any programmes/applications on the phone?
