Root Awesome Gmail.apk always display images

I've tried installing it using the free app installer from the market. Currently I'm running the DarkSlide v4.2 ROM, but I tried installing it when I had just rooted my DX before I flashed to DarkSlide and it still didn't work. Is it possible to get a .zip of it and then install it using ClockworkMod?

Great find, just did it and it worked with no problems. I used the .apk file and root explorer. However about page three there is a .zip file that will install this as well.

People installing this should just be aware that images defaulting to off is a security feature to prevent tracking/email harvesting (as well as objectionable images) in spam.

So, if you install this, be extra careful opening questionable emails. Spammers use uniquely keyed images on emails so if you reach out to their server for that image, they know they've hit a good email address and it goes into lists for other spammers.

That is a great point and one for everyone to keep in mind. The upside to this is Google has the best spam filter IMO out there. I get a lot of spam each day, but NEVER see it hit my inbox. If anything I have to check because it may have filtered too well.

Has anyone discovered a way to modify gmail.apk to make this work for modern versions of Gmail?

I've been all over looking for the answer to this, and haven't been successful yet.
