I have a azerty hardware keyboard but when i put it in my tablet it acts like a qwerty keyboard. Is there a way to change this

Yes, there is a keyboard map file (I'm not at my tablet now and can't remember its name and location) which can be patched to map Android keyboard events to Actions.

It has a relatively simple layout but would need to be root to access this file and a hex editor to change it...

Glad to hear that there is a way. But can you give me the name or something and perhaps a bit more instructions in how to do it?

Thanks in advance

While tbod has a bit of a snooze perhaps I might point you in the direction of /system/usr/keylayout/qwerty.kl

it looks like you might just have to edit the entries for key16 to about key 50 to end up with an azerty keyboard map
maybe even make a azerty.kl?

Not me...nooooooooo.. I'm a nuts and bolts man....!

Oh what the hell.....I'll have a go.....

you need root explorer to change the permissions for the /system/usr/keylayout/qwerty.kl file to read/write.... actually strike that......first off

COPY THE qwerty.kl file!!

now change it to read/write

I use TED it's a text editer, I edited the key 16 entry from Q to W . Save the file and reboot. Guess what?.....yehhhhhhhh two W keys!!

Changing the Q key back to Q is problematic as the Q key print a W now!! You have to rename the qwerty.kl file and rename your backed up qwerty.kl back to qwerty.kl Now you see the reason for the backup!!

I'm gonna call my modified qwerty.kl azerty.kl and play with it for a bit....

when you have it as you want it change the permissions back again and you are good to go......

ummmm can't see any way of using an azerty.kl file so you might just have to make do with the one edited keyboard file...

This programming is easy innit! :-) think I might have a go at this RoM cooking next ;-)
