Help Back and Menu Buttons NOT working Samsung Galaxy Note 2

2 days ago, i noticed that my back and menu buttons stopped working. I've done everything short of performing a full factory reset:

1. restarted phone -- NO GO
2. removed battery, connected to desktop via usb, powered on -- NO GO
3. attempted to locate "Voice service" and clear data -- NO GO
4. attempted to perform backup and restore by using the built in developer utility pressing power+vol. up+home key simultaneously (sorry new to android, still learning the jargon/terminology), but without a microSD card NO GO
5. cleared data from all running services and rebooted -- NO GO

My microSD card should be arriving in the mail today. I'll try the backup and restore if necessary, but would like to avoid doing that being that I've only had this phone 4 days. I don't believe it to be a carrier issue, thus the reason why i didn't post this in the existing Sprint customer issues thread. Any help and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Exactly the same thing is happeing to me. I am with Telus in Canada. The menu and back touch buttons work intermittently. I got the phone Tuesday. I didn't even know th ebutton worked until a day later. I believe the longest it has worked is for 12 hrs. I am debating if I should exchange it for a different device.
 
I fixed it by wiping cache partition. can't add link this is my first comment:mad:. but you can search it and you will get the steps on how to do that, it doesn't delete your personal info.
 
anyone able to fix this issue? I tried wiping the cache partition like above but that did not fix it.

I dropped my phone from about 1 foot (hardly the worst I've done) and the back and menu buttons quit working
