back button not so good ?

hi all
might just be me but I find the back button a bit tedious
as it needs to be used a lot. might just have been better
as a individual button maybe...or does android need
swipes ;)
cheers

it is an individual button....or are you not talking bout the hardware one?

one my desire it is joined to the search key.
feels like a rocker ?

I think part of it is going to a key at bottom of
the screen rather than using the screen itself
to do the back action.

think there might be a soft key app coming soon
which could be good

ok lemme try and understand right....you dont like the physical back button key because its joined to the search button and would prefer and on screen button?

though you do realise the reason there is a physical button is to do with android, not the desire...its how the OS deal with itself and the apps it has with it...it has menu context buttons rather than a whole mess of keys onscreen and im sure im not the only one who thinks this is great as it frees up the screen for much more important things..

I dont believe there will be a soft app as it would be unessential due to the hardkey (or touch sensitive like on the nexus one, wildfire an desire HD etc)..

but you dont have a problem with the menu or home buttons? how about the volume buttons?

The home and menu buttons are separate, which means they feel totally different compared to the back and search buttons.

to be fair for me I dont notice the search button as I very very rarely ever use it so it kinda becomes one button for me..and thats *back*..

Yeah, I agree. While I do prefer the feel of the individual buttons, the look of one button is a bit more appealing. Considering the relative lack of use of the search button it doesn't bother me much.

The truth is, it doesn't really bother me, I'm just happy that we actually have physical buttons instead of capacitive ones like the Desire HD :D

yea I prefer the hard keys to any touch based ones...whats annoying though is if I use my girlfriends Wildfire I automatic go looking for hard heys...then get used to the touch ones...then when I come back to my Desire I start pressing just un the screen for buttons rather than the hard keys haha....bloody irritating :P

After reading this post it has only now occurred to me that the back and search buttons are joined whilst the home and menu buttons are not. How strange. I agree, i rarely use the search button... actually forgot it was there!

Seems like i'm experiencing the same issue. Probably abused the back button too much. Let's just hope that it doesn't get flimsy or screwed up with the search button in future :D

yes that was my thought. separate keys would have been
more durable I think.

I did notice they were joined though ;)

Though I like real button on my Desire, I like the idea of an Android 3.0 tablet that has none (aside from on/off and volume). To have the entire screen available for content and buttons only appearing when required sounds great.

Come on HTC, release an uber 3.0 tablet, if anyone can give Apple a run for their money on the design stakes, it's HTC
