Help back light/soft keys!

Does anyone else have an issue with the light on home, menu, back & search button not lighting. I took the phone back but the phone they were gonna replace it with had the same problem. The only way to get the light to work is to cover the top of the phone or sitting in the dark. Any advice would be great.

Unfortunately, the phone is designed to work like this, it detects the ambient light levels in the room and then either lights or doesn't light the buttons accordingly. Sometimes in a dark room, with a TV or a bright distant light source this can cause the buttons to remain unlit when you'd really want them on.

I don't believe that there are any settings that we can use to adjust this, we must simply wait for root and custom roms before we will be able to play with the config.

There are other posts regarding this elsewhere.

What a crap feature, the phone is 4 my partner who's eyesight ain't the greatest. Thanks 4 letting me know ben.

yup, it worked...for those who maybe don`t know where the sensor to make the soft keys light up, it is just to the left of "HTC" at the top of the phone...you can try with your finger to pinpoint exactly where it is...i used a tiny piece of " electrical tape " and now the lights are always on...such a difference

I got so excited when I read this that I ran down stairs to find my phone and try it! Having given you the option of screen brightness being automatic or user-defined, you'd have thought they could have included these keys in the same sub-menu.

keeping it always on may have some drawback, like battery usage for instance.
and also dont cover the 2 sensors, the other sensor is for the phone call. it disables the screen when the phone is close to your ears.

ison, so where`s the other sensor that disables the screen at ? right next to the soft keys sensor ? am trying to find a diagram of the ds which shows where the sensors are located

Page 8 of the full manual shows a pair of sensors right next to eachother, which is going to make sticking black tape over only one of them tricky. You should have a copy of the manual as a pdf document on your SD card.

Hi, I have the same problem with no lights when its almost dark. Its a shame HTC don't check out this forum and fix all these problems. Surely the screen takes 95% of the power so why not leave the lights on? I should have stuck with the Samsung D900I at least everything works properly and only

Why not try using custom light levels instead of the auto feature? I bet your phones looks real cool with bits of insulation tape all over them.
