Help Back speaker not working after LCD change

Hi everyone,

I recently had a crack in my LCD screen (SLCD, not AMOLED) so I ordered a new one, and have installed it myself today. Booted up the phone and everything was working perfectly! However, I noticed a small area of light bleeding in the area where the GPS antenna is placed, so I opened it back up and moved the black plastic antenna wire guide which was causing the problem. I didn't knock anything else knowingly, and put it all back together as before, and although the light problem had gone, suddenly the back speaker wasn't working (no ringtone, music, alarm sounds etc.). The front speaker works fine, and headphones work fine. I tried opening the phone again to check the speaker contacts (which I assume are the two small springs by the speaker...) were in place, and they were fine. Then I thought it might be due to app updates which I did after the first boot, before fixing the light bleed, so I restored the phone to a previous backup with no luck.

My details are:
Android Version: 2.3.7
Network: 02 UK
Taskiller Used?: None
Are You rooted & which Rom: Rooted, MIUI 2.4.13

Has anyone else replace the LCD and had problems? I can't understand why it worked initially, and then stopped after the second time of opening the back up.

Thanks in advance...

Did you take the speaker out of it's housing to inspect it?

Anyway, these things are really cheap on ebay... I replaced one recently myself.

I realised it was a loose connection between the speaker contacts and the circuit board, and found that squeezing the case over the speaker made it work. I opened it up and managed to temporarily fix it by placing a small bit of folded paper between the back of the LCD screen and the circuit board, which propped it up enough to touch the contacts of the speaker.

I just don't understand why it doesn't fit normally - unless my replacement screen is thinner than the original, there doesn't seem to be a logical reason as to why the contacts don't reach the circuit board. Putting the piece of paper in there now puts pressure on that corner of the LCD screen so there is distortion of the colours on the screen, most noticeable when I'm in an app with a black background. But I'd rather have the speaker working than no sound and a perfect screen. Thanks for your input though.

EDIT:

It seems it was due to one of the spring contacts of the speaker being bent, and not contacting the circuit board properly. I have bent it back and managed to get the speaker to work properly without the piece of paper propping it up, so now I have a working speaker and a normal screen! Hopefully this will help someone else who gets themself into the same situation...
