I am a noob, so please bear with me. The problem I am having is that I am new to Android phones and most people here are so far ahead of me that I don't even know the terminology they're using yet.

Here's what I'd like to do: I have an Atrix 4G. It was AT&T, but I think it is unlocked. What I would like to do is return the software (OS?) back to as if I bought it from Motorola (not AT&T), then update it to the most recent software (OS?).

Can someone tell me what this process is called and if it's possible?

Thanks!

In settings, you can do a 'factory reset'. That should return to same state as when purchased. However, I have no idea if it works with an unlocked phone.

Thanks for the reply! I don't think that's what I'm trying to do. Basically I'd like the phone to be as if I bought it directly from Motorola with no trace of AT&T. I don't know if that's possible, or what it's called if it is possible.

I have moved this into the 'all things root' forum simply because if anyone knows how to do this, or if it is even possible, it is the rooting wizards of this forum. Good luck.:)

I want to do it because AT&T has put some things on the phone that seemingly can't be removed. It sounds like you don't think this is something I need to do?

Totally possible.

Download rsd lite. The latest version. Then download the 2.3.6 sbf file. Install to your Windows computer. Flash the sbf. Simple as that.

You will have to unlock and re-root, if you want, but that is how to get to the latest firmware.
