Help Back Up Contacts To Sim

Dave !! :rolleyes:I was pointing out the fact that you can't and that one of the lures of creating your own Build version and can include/exclude apps, sounds and features that suit You !!!

So make friends with your fave Dev and have them make the DK-Build ...

As a non-dev, you're saying that a "create your own build" is possible. This is what larger companies are doing with carriers/hardware, ala the Hero build. Right?

But to continue your suggestion's line of thought, in the near future could a regular user, ala carte, checkbox off applications to include, along with a standard kernel (that follows the migration from cupcake to donut to eclair, etc)?

I can understand not letting me delete the dialer, as it could cause issue if I don't know what I am doing, the alarm though? We've gone way off topic on this one, sorry OP.

NO this would not be done from the phone .... this would have to be in a build environment ... and the end-user would have to have a rooted phone to apply the custom build ...

OFF TOPIC - Why can't we delete the AmazonMp3 app? What's the real difference between Contacts and Dialer? Programs like Alarm Clock, IM, Music, should be able to be removed since there are replacements. Just my .02.

replacements for what exactly?

I never use the Music app for example since I like Tune Wiki much better. And with the very limited space of the phone, removing an app like that would be great. I don't use the Alarm app at all, but I have seen browsing the catalog other Alarm style apps. I don't really need the AmazonMP3 app, since a program like Shazam is much more useful and allows me to access music catalogs, as does other apps like Imeem with more functionality.

Sorry, I mis-read your question and thought you said "they are" not "there are". Silly.

I think Dialer and Contacts are just shortcuts involving the same program -- not separate apps, per se. I had never noticed that there is no actual difference between them since they have the same tabs. One may be the app, and the other is the shortcut. Technically with the hardware button you don't even need those shortcuts anyway.

Okay, you got me, I don't know why they felt the need to make certain extras default and un-removable. Perhaps they got money from AmazonMp3 and they insisted on having a built in music player? Perhaps replacement of certain apps is on the timeline for later (when devs have built replacements that don't have any functionality holes)
Preloading that software is a selling point on the device, since other similar music capable phones have a built-in store (doesn't verizon and sprint do that?)
I still stand by what I said, though, they could've gone the route of the Wing and jammed it so full of unremovable extra apps that the phone has no room for anything else.
