You shouldn't need to back anything up to simply reboot but its not a bad idea to make backups.
However if you are going to do a factory reset (erases all user data) then I recommend SMS Back Up & Restore. Just install, carry out a back up, locate the SMSbackup file with a file explorer & copy it to your PC or Dropbox or where ever. To restore place the file back in the same location after the factory reset, reinstall the app & run a restore.
Calendar is easy to answer. Just make sure it is syncing with your google account via settings>accounts & sync>google>accounts(touch the account) & check calendar is checked.
To sync photos to dropbox enter the dropbox app then menu>settings. Ensure there is a prompt which says "Unlink device from Dropbox". Dont touch if there is as it will unlink it otherwise press there to link. Then under camera upload make sure the prompt says "Turn Off Camera Upload" if it says "turn on Camera upload" then you need to press it.
You will find your photos in the new "Camera Uploads" file.
As part of your google account you have a calendar. If you follow the above instructions it will sync with your phone calendar rather than back it up. That is any device logged into your account will sync with the calendar if you use the above settings. You can also access your calendar online via google.com then select calendar.
