Background Data in WiFi

I just got an lg optimus one (with a basic talk and text plan. No DATA) and when checking out the android market place it prompted me to turn on the background data, i did but my main question is if i will get charged for data usage because i turned on the background data, my conection to the internet is through a wifi hotspot.

You should get into the wireless settings and then the APN settings to see if there is one. If there's an APN set up, you can edit it or even delete it so there will be no data connection.

I have this phone and I use it on wifi only. ;)

The APN settings are carrier-dependent. They are the "instructions" used to connect to the 3g network of your carrier. By disabling them, you won't have any internet connection.

You might also lose the ability to send/receive MMS (pictures in text messages), although I'm pretty sure you could change the "type" of the APN to allow MMS without data connection.

Wifi is always free. ;)
