Help Background Programs List - can I stop from auto load

ArkyRj

Lurker
Hi,
Im Rj, a computer tech from Arkansas.Im new to the forum, and to the Samsung Captivate (my wife has one).

We have used 45mb of data in just 1 and a half days. And half the battery life in half a day.
There are a ton of un-neccessary apps running in background.

Can someone tell me which of these apps are neccessary, and which can be told to stop running at startup? I have looked at "root"ing the Phone, but am skeptical right now, although I may give that a shot later.
Here is a list. Please let me know whats neccessary, and what I can uninstall, and how to stop it from auto loading.
Thanks in advance

as a P.S. to above, I really am only concerned about battery eating, and data plan eating apps.

Thanks again.

there's a whole lot of programs and services running in the background at all times on a droid. i wouldn't be too worried about the battery drain, to be fair. today's smartphones are all more or less plagued by short battery lives. using 45MB on its own in not even two days shouldn't happen, however.

i'm using an app called autostarts (had to pay for it tho) to suppress tasks from loading. it would be great to have a list of tasks that the o/s needs to run, so i could weed out every single one it doesn't need to automatically start.

but yes, in order to control that you need to root your phone and gain superuser access. there's a lot of step-by-step "manuals" on the internet that will show you to unlock your phone. it's not that difficult. if you're unsure about it tho, don't do it. you could end up "bricking" your device, which wouldn't help anyone. as with any of these things: google is your friend.

uh, pun not intended :)
