backing up before getting new phone

I currently have a Samsung Galaxy S2 that is finally giving up. I want to purchase the new S5 , but need to back up my current phone first. I am not really tech savvy , so I am looking for the simplest way to backup , and then restore everything on my new phone. I have everything synced with Google , but I also want to be able to backup photos , texts , and Yahoo mail. I had used Samsung Kies in the past ,(had to replace the mother board) and it was cumbersome , to say the least. I can't seem to recall what I had to do to backup/restore Yahoo Any help is appreciated, thanks

Check out MyBackup Pro or Helium. I don't use Yahoo but I assume it works similar to Gmail - IMAP-based, so everything will just be there without you needing to do anything regarding backup/restore.

I honestly don't know how to back up texts..A Yahoo! Mail app should automatically your emails on there.

For everything else, If you can take out your sd card (sorry since I'm not sure if the galaxy can allow you to remove it or have internal memory instead..not a huge samsung fan), you can download an app called Android Assistant and back up all of your apps onto your sd card. If you can't remove your sd card or so, I'm not sure of how to back up all the apps then...

If your photos are on an sd card that you can take out, then there's no need to back those up either.
If otherwise - or you just want to make sure you can absolutely have all of your photos, use a Dropbox account to upload all of your photos and put them on there.

thanks for the input. Unfortunately , the main reason I need to replace the phone - bad charging port/motherboard- , means I can't physically connect my phone to my pc with a USB cable. I have tried backing up data to an sd card , but then I guess I would need to get a caed reader, is that correct ? I can see the amount of storage (728) on my sd card , and it hasn't changed even after I copied everything over. Is the external sdcard the small micro card that slides in the slot next to the battery ? (i told you i was no tech wiz)

You want Samsung's Smart Switch Mobile app. It will transfer most everything from the S2 to S5 without the need for a USB connection.
