Root Backing up contacts

What is the best way to back up contacts when running a non-stock OS? I am about to flash from stock 2.1 to Assonance, and would like to have the ability to save my contacts, preferably on AT&T address book.
 
Considering AT&T Address Book doesn't even work anymore with the latest 2.1 stock update, I doubt it works with these unofficial 2.2 ROMs.

To back up Contacts, either:

- Only use Gmail contacts
- Use Titanium Backup
- Export to VCF periodically
