Root Backing up SMS before switching Roms?

Coach56

Newbie
I've gone thru backing up with Titanium Back up, but it doesn't seem to carry over to the JB Roms.

I'd be willing to pay for an app that makes it simple/quick, but not sure of the best one. I'm sure some of you flashaholics could point me in the right direction tho.

So, what is the best way to backup/restore SMS when flashing different roms?

The stock messaging app has backup built in, just hit the menu button and select it. If using the stock app isn't available on different roms you can always use Sms Backup and Restore from the play store. :D

titanium backup should work but if not, make a full 4ext backup...
then use 'appextractor beta' to restore sms... will also help you restore many other things and its FREE....

appextractor beta -- https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.handyandy.appextractor.beta

Actually, I think I just found it. I think/thought I backed it up as:

Dialer(SMS/MMS/APN)

Seems its under Phone/Messaging now.

I tried using titanium but it would never restore them. So now I just use GO SMS it backs up all your messages to your SD card and it restores them

Do not use that, that created problems for me. The one I used and I have to restore manually is Messages (SMS & MMS)

That's the one I always use. It's just XML data, so it should restore the messages to any messaging app without causing any problems.

+1 for appextractor. Make a nandroid, wipe, flash, download, open, restore. One of the best apps I've ever used.

Titanium Backup can do the same thing (extract from nandroid). Or maybe it's just the pro version that does this?

it can do the same thing but sometimes I end up bootlooping and forget to make a backup...
thats when i create a nandroid and use appextractor to bring back those all important texts or that game progress I spent months working on...
this app is amazing when it comes to bootloops... just backup restore and smile :)
