backup Assistance

Newbie
I was having fits with Verizon's back up assistance, deleted contacts and double contacts as well.
I found a fix that worked for me. I deleted all of my commando contacts, also deleted my google contacts from gmail. I made sure my contacts on Verizon were the way I wanted them, they were updated to my phone within minutes. I turned off the automatic back up assistance and turn it back on only when putting in new entries, the new entries are only entered on the Verizon site. Once transfered to the phone the back up turned off.
I used a program called " Free Opener " and converted the contacts to a cvs file and uploaded them back into google gmail, for a second backup.

I can't say i have had this problem, but good solution.

I have had the backup assistant on the last few phones i owned. When i switched to the Commando i just told it to restore and it downloaded them. I have it set to Sync, and when i make changes on the phone it usually shows up online the same day if i go to My Verizon and Backup Assistant.

Why use backup assistant when google (if set up to sync) does the exact same thing, but better?

x2!

I actually had done something similar as Joel
when I first got my Commando because the backup Miscreant
kept jacking up all my contacts.
I swear that thing NEVER worked correctly on any devise I've owned.
Finally I got keen to letting google sync all my contacts and
I've now removed all contacts from backup Miscreant,
and I'll never go back!

Can you edit the contacts on the computer with Google then?? I like having the backup assistant so i can manage them on the website.

Yep.
You can manage your contacts from your computer or phone.
They will update each other when the contacts sync box is checked,
and you'll never have to worry about it again.
It will even handle contact pictures. (not sure if BUA does that or not)
That way if you ever have to a hard reset, once you sync to your gmail account,
all your contacts pics, numbers, and info are back were they need to be on your phone.:)

Awesome thanks for the tip!

I haven't had troubles with the backup assistant but sounds like google does a better job. The verizon backup just does name, address and phone number, won't backup the pictures and stuff.

I can't remove Verizon's backup assistant and just leave google, it's both or none. Leaving auto sync off and turning it on only to update from Verizon's website has been working well for me. I do not add contacts that often, so I'm really not inconvienced.
