Root backup error message [FIXED]

while making a backup of my ROM using Rom Manager, I get this error in recovery:

Error while making a backup image of /data! /tmp/recovery.log was copied to /sdcard/clockworkmod/recovery.log. Please open ROM Manager to report the issue.

so it failed to backup my data folder? that's kind of a big deal, right? I would like a full backup before I put another ROM on this phone. Any advice?

Use the backup in CWM Recovery instead of Rom Manager.

already tried that. same exact error message.

Have you tried looking at the log file? It should state what the actual error is. Used whatever file explorer is to open that log file as a txt and see what it says.

Interesting. The fact that is says NULL means that it doesn't have an exact error code for your error. And the fact that it's happening to both Rom Manager and Recovery puzzles me. Might need to send that log to the dev and see if he can help you unless someone can chime in and give their thought.

I got it to work, I don't know if I was supposed to do this the first time or what but this time I opeend bootstrap recovery and clicked "bootstrap recovery" and then went into recovery via the bootstrap app. phone backed up just fine this time.
