Help Backup prior to root

Hello -

Quick question about rooting.

I'm going to want to root my nexus, probably soon, but have already customized it and downloaded a ton of apps.

What would I have to do in order to save everything, apps, settings, icons, etc., prior to rooting so I wouldn't lose everything and can just load it back up the way it is now?

Hopefully that made sense.

fwiw You can only use ClockWork after you've rooted but yes that is what you will need to use in order to make a full backup.

If I use the backup and restore settings in settings will this save all my apps and settings/desktop as well?

yes and no. it will not restore settings in the way i think you're referring to.

Here is what i typically do regarding backups.

1. If you want backups of your text messages use SMS backup.
2. If you want backups of your apps AND your app data (ie what level your on in angry birds) Use Titanium Backup Pro
3. As soon as you root i recommend you making a full nandroid backup in CWM in addition to 1 and 2. This is just for safe keep in case you run into issues you can flash it and be back to square one.

remember this guys. The reason everyone said to root your phone as soon as you get it is because doing so wipes the phone. So even using CWM to make a backup isn't really going to help you if you have already done a lot of customization on the phone.
