Help Backup & Restore?

Coming from the iPhone world, I'm used to the option of automatic backups and restore of the whole phone via iTunes if I messed something up. Is there something similar for this phone? Is it possible to wipe the phone and put it back to day 1 as if it was new or does Android not suffer issues where a restore/reset would be needed?

I believe if you look in the market there are some apps that can do a backup (titanium backup for example). Or maybe you can look up how to do a nandroid backup.
To erase the entire phone you go to settings and than privacy I believe.
I don't have the phone but that's how it was on my nexus one

I use MyBackup Pro and it's a super program. It is easy to use and works without problems. It can everything a backup / restore program should be.

I just bought a new Galaxy and S I9100 should have all my data, applications, SMS, MMS, pictures and a lot more from my old Galaxy S 9000 passed.
When I first install MyBackup Pro on the new phone, it took 4-5 minutes to get everything else posted ..

On my iPhone (yeah yeah, I know) I could do a backup, factory reset and then restore and I was back exactly as I was.

People keep saying that this or that backup app backs up "everything" but it's not clear what they mean by "everything".

Does any of these backup apps effectively do this? By this I mean if I backed up, then flashed the stock ROM and restored, would I be exactly back where I was at the point of taking the backup?
