If you guys are with Sprint I am still in need of a tester to update the baseband only. The plus side is you wont have to re-install anything after your done. PH8AL and I ate patiently waiting.

How risky is it?

Plus, if I can get this danged image to work, I will be including the baseband update file.
Which option would you prefer, and why?in lamen's terms the baseband is the little piece of software that runs the phones radio for signal so probably 3G/4G and wifi etc
Actually not so little. Several files/folders in an img with a total size of 19.53mb.
Out of curiosity I had a look around in it.
It is the firmware for the radio and unless the phone has more than one transceiver it is for everything.
They are also completely interchangeable wit any version of the rom Kernel from any of the updates.
I put my phone into airplane mode and installed the FG11 baseband on a boost TU to check the file integrity. It changed it in about phone. I almost tried taking it out of airplane mode to see what happens but punked at the thought of what could happen.
While the subject is on my mind, I'm thinking of doing one of two things for the v3 update, and would like you guys to chime in with your opinion.
Option 1:
I create a two-part installer, one being the backup image, and the other being the rooter/goodies installer. I'm thinking the reason root isn't working for some reason with just the image is that somehow the files necessary for root access are getting messed up or deleted altogether somewhere in the process of when I test the image on my own phone, and when others load it onto their phones.
Option 2:
I write a thorough, step-by-step guide of exactly what I did to achieve root along with the update. It would mean I'd have to go through the whole process a fourth time with my device, so I can be very precise with my instructions, but the advantage this option has over the others is that I might be able to better pinpoint where things are going sideways for others.
Anyway, those are my thoughts. What say you, guinea pigs?Which option would you prefer, and why?
You are definitely alot more knowledgeable with all this lol. i had basically gathered that the baseband runs the phones radio(s) so i gues i still have a lot of learning to do

I say #2 because of your reasoning and the perverse pleasure I will get knowing what you are doing and how mind numbing it will be.
Well, there's always the unwritten Option #3, too, where I do both 1 and 2.while we are on the subject, if i flash the FG11 baseband to my phone what does this do to any future rom flashing and whatnot? say im on $hevrom, which is for Boost and i am with Sprint, does this let my wifi/3g etc work better? and if i flash to anotehr rom, for instance to test what xaeith has in store next, will it keep the fg11 baseband? im only asking since ive bee nreading up on it in the forums its seems to suggest that you will keep said baseband but if you do a restore from a cwm backup you restore to a previous baseband? sorry if the question seems redundant or if it's been resolved in another thread.

Crap I can't sleep, our ac is on the fritz. Now the real kicker is, my radio was still not fully connecting. Didn't know why. So in talking with PH8AL, we decided to go ahead and re-flash are baseband updater. It was my file anyways with ALL the work being done by PH8AL. It actually fixed by radio issues.
This is just how it is with home cooked software. Our devs are awesome, but on a budget and just a few people working together or individually you have to take bugs as par for the course.
All of our tools had to be ported to and tweaked to run with this device and all of them have bugs. Some are just flaws in the coding from who ever the original Dev was.
Nothing new in computing. Is it a reason not to do this stuff? NO! All the more reason. Some one has to figure this stuff out and bugs only get found the hard way. If not us who?
You just have to accept it and keep an eye out for oddities. And most important add what you observe some where here.
Sorry to hijack your thread with all this...
. As a matter of fact, I like hearing about and reading other peoples' input, off-topic or not because it helps me expand my own knowledge.Umm...I'm so out of place :S
I think I'll try updating my baseband.
NiteNarmor if you want u you pm me (I'm mobile).
