Root Backup then reload TEXT's, APP's after flashing...

I searched here and via Google. If the info is readily available, don't get your panties in a bunch, please just point me in the right direction.

Just got Rooted thanks to Revolution and have made a NAND backup (I think).

I want to try this ROM first: Synergy - RLS1 <-- For EVO 4G
Goodies of this ROM are listed here: [ROM] Synergy [RLS1] [8/5/11]

I have TEXT's, APP's, email accounts, contacts, and etc. that I'd like to backup and reload once the new ROM is up and running. What is the best way to do this and can this be done?

My Google Contacts have been updated, so they should auto-sync, but what about favorite and or groups?

I continually hear about Titanium Backup, is that something I need for what I'm looking to do? Is what I'm trying to do a god awful and surefire way to encounter problems?

I really appreciate some help from those who know best.

Thanks,

titanium backup is a great way to back up apps and their data. what is great is that you could do batch backups and restore if you have the pro version. just do not backup or restore system data. it will cause current rom issues as it will have bits and pieces of your previous rom.

sms backup is a good app to use for text or go sms, you can save your messages to the card.

as far as your email account. not sure on that one i use gmail.

also make sure before you flash roms that you make a nandroid backup. it is a complete snapshot of your phone that you could always restore back to if you run into problems or do not like a rom.

ocnbrze,

Thanks, I see you have many posts, and were the first to reply to my first ever on the forums. I'll look up SMS Backup. I found one called App Backup & Restore that was highly rated and sounds like it will also work well.

What are your personal procedures when going from ROM to ROM? Tomorrow, later today rather I will flash my EVO 4G for the first time.

for me use vr superwipe right before i flash a rom. you can get it in the gingerbread guide in the life after root section.
this is what i do:
1.download rom
2.transfer to root of card
3.got recovery and make a nandroid backup
4.wipe dalvik cache, cache, and data
5.select install zip from card
6.flash the vr superwipe
7.flash your rom
8.reboot

first boot will take awhile so be patient.

dont forget to wipe SDEXT if you ever use A2sd with a partition on your sd card. :) but DO NOT FORMAT SD....i did that once on accident..cuz im mr speed demon in recovery,i do everything fast..so when i though i was formatting SDEXT i actually hit vol up 1 too many times and ended up formatting my entire SD card..... what an ass..lol

i know that you are supposed to, but i haven't and i have yet to run with any issues. it keeps all of my apps intact. the only issue i have is with godmode. any rom with it i have to do a full wipe.

Thank you so much for this post! I was looking for posts that explained how to back up text messages and other personal data but to no avail. Unfortunately, I just kept finding topics that described how to back up applications and such. Seeing as how I only have a couple (maybe 3 or 4) of applications download on my phone, many of the posts were not helpful. But not this one. Finally, I have an answer to my question!!!
