Root Backups/flashes

Is there any way to keep the downloaded apps and everything you've installed from a different Rom to the one you're about to flash?

on another note, if I were to make a backup of my texts with titanium backup, would I have to make a backup. Flash other Rom, use a root manager and delete that rom's messaging app and then restore? or do I just restore it?

You can always try it with Titanium Backup but I wouldn't replace data just the apps themselves. For text messages I've always used sms backup and restore.

most of the time your good backing up user apps and data and then restoring them..but never system apps or data..

i use titanium backup also but i think you'll need pro in order to do that batch operation

but like the above poster said..its always good practice to just wipe everything..start fresh..even with apps..that way your guaranteed.-well almost..that you won't have any trouble
