Root Backups for newbs

ok i see so many posts here of newbs who read our guides and root correctly, only to rush in flashing custom roms without making any backups first. Things then go wrong and your buggered. The first rule of a successful root is to make a nandroid backup from recovery before anything else. it's also a good idea to then copy this backup to your pc incase your sd card becomes corrupted.

Many thanks for this as I too am at this stage, just done a root but wondering about backups and getting a bit confused.

When you say 'Backup', is the entire phone saved? i.e all the contacts, photos and apps? Or, just the internal memory?

If just internal, do we use another application to backup the contacts, photos etc?

Any help appreciated, I know there are great guides here but sometimes the more I read the more I get confused.

good post shauny - think i might have been one of those who rushed into roming :D
....think i probably did a backup before .....but cant be sure - was very green back then :D

Having just rooted and ROMed for the first time I can't stress how much of a safety net Nandroid is. Simply put when you go back to a back-up, your phone is back to how it was. It is the basis of being able to change things to know that you can go back to where you were.

Well said Shauny.
