Bad 1x reception on voice calls

All of them are 1900MHz.

The 800 MHz usually have numbers in no particular multiple (e.g. 384). The 1900 ones are usually in multiples of 25 afaik.

Well, they are sending me two new units, if these have the same issue it will be by by Verizon and back to AT&T. I love the android OS, but not if it means crappy voice quality due to a poorly implemented antenna or whatever on the phone.

Mine was switching channels quite a bit, I wonder if that is part of the problem? I imagine the chipset on the phone could be defective as well.

We shall see...

Has anyone swapped their phones and actually seen a improvment in this issue?

I wonder if people seeing this are all in the areas where VZ has 1900mzh service only? What if the defective phone is dropping down to 800mzh and roaming? That's what it seems like, almost like it's switching to a completely different tower/antenna

Yes, I have seen a difference when swaping phones- I am on my third Droid, but third time is a charm - love it!!

First one had problems with the other person on the line hearing me - plus their voice echoed (not mine) horribly!! The battery drained really fast too -

2nd Droid had a rotation screen problem -

3rd one, no problem - battery life on this one is GREAT too!

Good luck to you, hope it works out -

You know, How many people that are suffering poor signals are using a Google Voice number..

As I have been reading this I came to realize that most of my signal problems during calls /if not all/ are while i have recieved or made a call with Google Voice.. i think.. I'll be watching this closer to see if this is indeed my issue... doesn't seem like it would matter, but maybe Google Voice servers NEED a signal strength of certain quality for it to 'move it through' without breaks.. (remember, I can hear the person just fine, it's the other person that hears MY VOICE break up)..

Interesting.. It could be a weaker signal that would work through the normal network, but doesn't work going through Google Voice.. ??

VoIP in general is sensitive to latency. Once ping times start hitting 150ms or so, you'll be experiencing multiple QoS issues. Given the results I saw in my homemade antenna test and download speeds, 2 bar loss on 3g signal is significant. Signal strength below -78dBm is getting close to danger territory also.
