Help Bad Power Button - Reboot Loop & Random Reboot Help

Hi,

I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 (T-Mobile). I have had it for 1.5 years. All has been great until now. The power button seems to have worn down to where it is almost always being pushed. If I very softly touch the power button the screen will flicker off/on and often it will randomly reboot. Sometimes it will get stuck in a reboot loop until I mess with the button enough to get it 'unstuck'.

I feel that it's premature for the phone to die this early. I want to get this fixed instead of buying a new phone at this point.

Any ideas or fixes to this solution. I have searched the forum but didn't really find any solutions.

Thank you!

The power switch (the thing the power button pushes) has to be replaced. Remember, you're talking about a component that wholesales for about 50 cents, so the fact that they last as long as they do is pretty good. (Of course it's not going to cost you 50 cents to get it replaced - the labor in opening the phone and putting it back together is a LOT more than that. And that's what you're going to be paying for.

Side note: I spotted ads on eBay for $30-$40 for the repair. It sounds about right. (You can get the switch for as little as $4, but you can also destroy the phone when you take it apart if you don't have enough experience. And soldering the switch in is going to cost you more than $40 in equipment - you need a very tightly temperature controlled soldering station.)

But if there's a repair shop near you with a good reputation, bring it in and get an estimate for a switch replacement. (Even if it's around the same price, it's faster and you don't have to pack it up and pay postage. And you can ask them if they can just replace the switch and not do a factory reset [which most companies will do as soon as they get the phone, so you can't accuse them of stealing your data])

Hey,

In case anyone else runs into this issue I fixed it myself. Here is a link to the video: How to Fix Samsung Galaxy S2 SII - Random Reboot
