Bad SD Cripples Hero

OK, so I'm out and about yesterday, and the Hero freezes up.

I try everything: hard reset, data wipe, backup boot - the lot. As soon as it gets past the HTC loading screen it freezes after a few seconds.

Haven't installed anything, or dropped it or anything.

So, I call Orange and arrange a replacement, but I'm pissed off and the Apple store is beckoning me. I keep trying and trying - I'm miles from home and have no working phone or web connection - I'm feeling vulnerable! ;)

Anyway, I pull the SD card, try her again, and what do you know? She works!
Put all the settings back in the fresh device, all is well.

Reintroduce the SD card: freezes again!

So, there you go. If you're having issues with booting, pull that SD card! It's buggered by the looks of it. Won't even be read properly by my lappy.

Now then google: lets have photos backed up automatically through picassa??!! I've lost LOADS! :(

Was it the original SD card that came with the phone?
Because i had a problem with the original where i kept saying "searching for errors" but nothing happened. When i put it in to a different phone the sd card worked perfectly fine.
So I took a card my dad had (also 2gb) and it worked fine in my hero... Wired :S

Same thing happened with my old Nokia N82 - did exactly the same until I removed the card. I was able to reformat it though. I've always got cards from the big name retailers to minimise the possibilty of duds. My Hero 8gig is a Transend Class 6 from 7dayshop (about

If the drive shows up in windows "my computer" (using a card reader) then right click and select properties, tools, check for errors and see what it comes up with!

Me and Ebay are finished for a massive number of reasons (or a massive number of scamming wankers requesting items to be sent to Nigeria)

WRT the card - windows isnt interested, and I'm not sure I'd trust the card in another device....

You shouldn't buy SD cards on e-bay because people trick the cards into thinking they are bigger than they are (same with USB Memory Sticks) it may be a 1 or 2 gig card and they say it is 8 gigs and the computer thinks it is but it is spoofed....

Just a heads up for next time,

Chris
