Help Bad service when out of town.

I am on my first month with Metro Service on my Ascend. I get good coverage in Orlando where I live but NONE in Sarasota. I made a trip to visit the parents for the weekend and I would briefly get one bar every hour or so. At that time I would receive a few texts and hope to get a chance to reply.

Since Sarasota is covered completely on their coverage map, maybe there is a setting. On one of my older phones there was an option to search for new towers or something similar.

Any ideas?

Edit: Also my girlfriend has an identical phone and plan, and she did not get service either. If we can't get service in Sarasota, we will have to leave metro.

Try dialing *228 in the new area. It might help reprogram your phone to the local towers there.

I would find out which major wireless carrier towers they use. I think Cricket uses Verizon. Point being, you could switch to another carrier and still have the same issues.

I lose my signal when I am travelling through Sarasota. I don't know why but, I think that's one of the few "Dead" zones here in Florida. There was another one for me like..Half way between Orlando and New Port Richey. I hope that's not the case as it's going to make it inconvenient for you. I was once told that a lot of the dead zones are created by overlapping signals. That it's just a weird occurance that you can't really predict where it will happen at.

Cricket uses sprint. Metro uses verizon. Thats for nationwide roaming, though. They have their own towers in their "home" areas.

Well the funny thing is while I was at my parents house Sunday, we had most of the major carriers in the house at once. My sister and brother use boost, parents use nextel, grandma on ATT, and sister's bf on verizon. All of them had sufficient service to text and receive calls.

I figured that my phone was supposed to get one of their services when out of the metro network. Hopefully the *228 will help.

The dead zones are not based off the cell phone receiving the signal, It's based off the location of the actual towers. I think it's an overlapping issue. I wish I knew more about it in technical terms. X.x Once I drove through Sarasota and lost my Metro signal. My boyfriend had Verizon (Used to be Alltel) At the time. He also lost his signal. I hope the *228 will help!

I'm in Sarasota all the time and service is in and out, especially inside buildings... also, seems like I always loose signal as I'm going over the Skyway Bridge... however my buddies verizon would drop also...
