Why wont a barcode scanner work on X8 have tried a few ,none work

SEX8 doesn't have autofocus. Barcodes are scanned from low distance (to fill the whole screen) and your phone probably can't focus on it. This is not failure of program, but of phone (many phones are produced without aufofocus and camera is focused to some distance, which is ok for landscape photos, but not for near photos). On phone with autofocus, camera always focuses from blurry to sharp image and after while see the code without problems.

I have Barcode Scanner by ZXing Team on my X8 and X10, it works fine. You don't need to hold it too close to the screen, certainly not close enough to fill the whole screen then just hold it steady and level for a few secs until its read all the dots and you should be fine.

As a rough guide, if I put the tip of my index finger on the screen then the camera is held on the pad of my palm just below my finger it reads perfectly.
