Root Bare Bones Android Rom

Why's everyone hating on sense...:P

I'm gonna move this to the All Things Root section :)

There's a few Vanilla roms between here and xDA that might get your attention.

Yeah, not a Sense fan myself. Plenty of Sense-less ROM's to be had. I run MidNight ROM Senseless

Awesome. Thanks for the input everyone.

I'm not sure what it is about Sense that I don't like. I can't quite put my finger on it, but it just doesnt feel right to me. I have had several android phones starting with the HTC EVO. I like Sense back then, but my last phone before this one was an S2 on Sprint. We have since cancelled with them and went with VM to save money and in my area it gets just as good of signal and data coverage. Well, the EVO V 4G was half the price of the VM S2 with similar specs so I decided to go with it. Now that I have a fair comparison, I really like touch wiz far more than Sense, but I also used a rooted Transform Ultra with a bare bones android rom on it and have like it's software the best.

i like sense for most of its apps. calender, agenda, mail , all great. and the weather app, i like the sounds for each weather type and of course the thunderstorm haha, i sometimes go in there just to see it and this is only sense 3.6.

i feel like a bare bone is for more busy people with no time to enjoy little things. i have an nexus s 4g to toy around, aokp gets boring quite easily for me :)

AOSP based ROM's don't have to be boring. There are a lot of cool themes, widgets and icons in the Play Store and a lot of them are free. And the new LMT Launcher with PIE control works equally well with AOSP and Sense ROM's.

Next Launcher 3D from GO is far from free but offers a lot of features on both Sense and AOSP based ROM's that go well beyond what HTC and the other manufacturers offer in their custom UI's.

Edit: BTW, there are even CM10/AOSP themes to imitate Sense if that's what you want.

I'm pretty much a n00b to this phone. I have rooted several other devices before but don't know what some of the acronyms mean. What is AOSP and AOKP?

Also, I may be completely wrong about this, but, my reasoning in wanting to root and remove Sense is that even if I add a new launcher, Sense will still be running in the background. Which eats into performance. I was thinking that if I remove it, then add a new launcher, I would get better performance. I just don't want to bog my phone down.

I also am VERY tempted to buy Next Launcher 3D.

You don't just remove Sense like that. It's a lot more involved. Sense is more then just apps running. It's literally integrated to the phone I believe.

AOSP stands for the Android open source project which is a pretty much pure Google experience, AOKP is the Android open kang project which includes a lot more customization and the Next 3d launcher works quite well on our phones. :D
