Root baseband issues

i just downloaded baseband.01.43.01.update, and put the zip on my SD card via usb (because the DL from rom manager keeps getting a download error) and installed it from recovery. when i did this the install failed, i beleive that there was a problem with the zip i got. anyone have any experience with this, and/or know of a good download for this update? also is this worth doing? i've done pretty much everything else that i know of to make my phone cooler, faster and work better. i'm addicted to customizing this thing and i'm running out of things to do... please help me get todays fix, lol. TIA
