Basix for R910 Ver 1.0 first impression

Did this need a thread of its own?
I'd say yes...
While the Basix thread in the all things root sub-forums can be used to acknowledge the existence of the rom and troubleshoot it, a thread here in the main forum makes sense and I think invites users to delve into the root section to get that rom.
Furthermore, this could remain more a thread about the experiences we have, and our impressions of the Basix rom, impliying it's already installed before posting impressions, instead of troubleshooting questions on how to install it, whether to partition the phone (!!!), what's gonna be deleted when installing, can we get back to stock, is it better than stock, what you like about it, what you don't like about it, screenshots, your momma's idea of what it should be, and all that stuff being all mushed into one single thread.

Idk. just my $0.02, i guess...

and? c'mon man, spill the beans!
wahddoyouthink? :D

its like i got a new phone, i've really been enjoying it since i loaded it on, i was already in a good mood because of the cwm/root that i could use on my linux pc, which is the only pc i want to use.

like i said it's like a new cooler phone with pretty noticeable increase in potential and speed.

i feel like i finally own my phone and not operating under a "no-contract' cell phone provider lease lol.

there are too many changes for the better that i like to list them all correctly with out missing somthing

but some visual things are:

notification bar- i feel like i'm in the future
icons-way more appealing
boot animation -great (though it is the same for powering off the phone, the animation only lasts for roughly 5 seconds then freezes till it powers off which in my mind is fine but i know it can be finer tuned :D) -- this could just be my phone hiccuping but i dont know

i'm not a huge fan of the swype keypad so i was a little disappointed that it was the only option.

the market app is incredible but i cannot seem to find the 'my apps' section.

the rotary lock screen is amazing

as far as ram goes... if i pop the super manger widget i'm at about 90mb/295mb (this is with clean system processes enabled)

i would really recommend it to everyone FREE AT LAST.

p.s i'm not comparing this rom to any other rom(s) except what came as stock :)

There are many options available on the Market - check out the Gingerbread keyboard out there.

Check the menu?

Did you know that was stock in Android 2.0? ;) Music controls, unfortunately, only work on Glass and Epic.

hmmm.. K0nane? I got a silly question here...
Where do we report bugs?
Like settings-> location & security-> set screen lock-> choosepattern: the text is all scrambled up together and completely unreadable...

Yeah i've notice the rotary lock doesn't auto rotate it self properly. And when that happenes the time stamp gets smushed up like...

it would be nice to addon a fix to make the buttons on the front turn the screen on, not really necessary though. Also maybe make the camera zoom. I dont understand on why this phone it doesn't there have been phones with way less mp and had a zoom feature. of course there is this

"So there's no zoom capability on our camera after all." --MetroPOS

http://androidforums.com/samsung-ga...anyone-replaced-their-default-camera-app.html

but i just dont believe it and i'd have to read somthing about the actual manufacture notes on the camera it self probably to find out

I'll take a look at this later, but given I didn't change that, it shouldn't look one iota different.

The rotary lock is indeed a tiny bit screwy, but there's not much I can do about it.

I won't be rushing to add digital zoom, as it would be a bunch of work, and digital zoom is ass. There isn't zoom - optical zoom - and you can get what digital zoom is by selecting the portion you were going to zoom in on, and cropping the rest, on your PC.

What happened to all the sounds ??? not even one left ?? but.. why ??
Delete /system/media/.nomedia. That shouldn't have gotten in there.

The text IS all jumbled up under location/security > set screen lock > choose pattern.

Also... It seems as if the battery dies much quicker now. Has anyone else experienced this?

I left my phone plugged in to charged and it got EXTREMELY hot!! I charged it for about 2 hours and went to pick up the phone and I could actually smell it from the heat.

Also after being left to charge for 2 hours the battery meter said 10% ?? I made sure there where no apps running or things using data.

Heat points to an obvious physical issue. If you are having battery life issues - battery life is better by all reports - calibrate your battery by charging to 100% while off, booting to recovery, and clearing battery stats.

As far as that text, I will look into it.

Mine has been unplugged for twelve hours and is at 34%, before it would have been that low a couple hours ago. I think this just saved me from buying any other sort of battery.

Though I do have one issue, the search button no longer does anything...not that I feel that is a huge deal.

download autorotate switch by kenneth cheng from market. . even when the search button worked i always replaced the function with that app lol it's of more use anyways
