There are some cracks in the wall where things join. How do we fix them? Also, how do we install a new showerhead? The old one is blasting all over the place.

The skirting boards("wall things") look rotten to me. Should really be replaced, but you could try Pollyfilla or similar caulking. Is that room damp. does it have mould, the black spots? Where I am, wall skirtings are usually ceramic rather than wood. As for shower heads, they usually just unscrew and screw on.

I'm with Mike... you can buy white caulking in a tube and fill the cracks in your baseboards. Replacing would be great but patching will suffice on the cheap. You should be able to simply unscrew your existing shower head and screw in a new one.
That shower head is going to give me nightmares 
those boards should come right out. you should be able to find replacements at home depot. but you will need some wood cutting equipment to cut them down to size. once removed you should see if there is more water damage or not and you will probably need to paint the boards as well.
the shower head should just unscrew off. you can try soaking it in some hardness remover or try soaking it some distilled vinegar for a few hours or overnight.

Thanks for all the replies and yoy're right about the screw on/off thing. However, when I took off the old one and tried putting on the new, it didn't fit. How do I take care of this?

Is there a flex hose that attaches to the shower head? Or does the shower head attach directly to the shower arm pipe from the wall?
weird then.....most shower arms are universal. not sure if there is an adapter for it. you might have to get a new shower head and make sure you take measurements from the arm.

If I where you, I'd gut that whole shower enclosure and start with brand new everything!
The mold and leaks are just gross, and also a health hazard. Good luck with that nightmare.

You have wooden skirting boards in the vicinity of the shower? No wonder they're splitting and rotten. Best thing for any wet places like that, is to tile and waterproof grout the area completely. That's how our bathroom is done.
