Or you can do it manually. Battery stats.bin is located in /data/system

What happens when I swap out the stock battery for the 3000mah one. Does the phone need a new calibration? Can these .bin's be backed up and restored?

I am no expert but in my experience with flashing roms i have never found an absolute need to recalibrate battery or specifically backup the related files.Is it a good idea to recalibrate when flashing roms probably so.is it necasary when just changing batterys probably not unless you really like to keep track of your battery usage.

Basically, these battery calibration apps do nothing apparently.

i never use battery apps to calibrate any battery, i just charge them to 100% and let the die to the phone powers back down. Battery calibrate apps are just another app running using resources for no reason.

Battery voltage is what the phone uses to determine the 100%-0% value (4.2v - ~3.0v).
