Help Battery charging for first time

I have connected my new Wildfire phone and am now charging the battery. I have followed all the instructions and have been charging for about 2 hours but no light is showing to indicate that the battery is charging. Does a light come on after a while or is something wrong? I am a phone newbie and would appreciate some help

When the battery is full, the small red charging light turns green. Does yours stay red?
