Help Battery charging issue

So I just got a Nexus S and the Gauge Battery Widget which I had only Nexus 1 also.
So the the battery issue I have is when I charge my battery it only charges up to 97% after charging fully over night. It has never said 100%.
Checking my phone status, the battery %age shows the same. Is this a known battery issue?

Thanks in advanced for any help.

I have the same issue with my phone as well. The widgets will say 92% but the phone will say that it is charged. I unplugged the phone, give it a few seconds and plug it back in. The phone say 92% and starts charging again. The best i can get is 95%.

I have read in a few forums that if u let ur battery mostly drain 5 -10% then charge it for 24 hrs straight untouched, that will train ur battery. I am going to try it in a couple of days to see if it works.

Don't bother, it's a coding issue with the firmware and it stops charging at 96% regardless of the state of charge. And discharging the battery very low is actually among the worst things to do with a Li-Ion battery - they work best and last longest when topped up regularly. See this thread for more info:

The two settings "tethering" and "stay awake" seems to work for my i9020a model. But although it seems to charge to 100% I do notice that while charging it jumps from 97% to 100% instead of steps yet it charges at the 100% level for quite a while. Also when using the phone on battery, it jumps from 100% down to 96% when discharging rather than dropping to 99/98/97 as expected. It seems to me it's not really charged to 100%, but more like about 98% given the time needed to charge and discharge across that 97-100 range. I also notice that even with this procedure the battery usage graphic curve doesn't start at the top (100%), but is a bit below that level, further indicating that it's not really at 100%. So I still don't think it's getting a true 100% charge...and I've given up on that procedure, mainly because the display panel is AMOLED and leaving the screen on for hours in order to charge for another 2% battery doesn't seem like a good trade to me as AMOLED has potential for burn in (although I haven't seen any side effects on this phone).

So until Google fixes this issue, I'm just charging it normally and hitting 96% which is good enough for now.
:)
