Root Battery depletion in 3-4 hours

My V is about 15 months old with the original battery. I'm down to 3-5 hours on one charge, no GPS, WiFi, etc running but doing occasional tasks and listening to some audio. I do airplane mode on/off after unplugging to help with "time without signal." I rooted the phone about a month ago, and it seems like the battery got worse right after that. I don't know if it's a coincidence or related.

Is 15 months about the lifespan of these batteries?

Playing music will deplete the battery especially if on speaker. Have you installed any new apps when this began?

I've moved this to the all things root section so they can better hel you.

Pass on the original battery, get an Anker 1600 mah battery, same size, similar price, but an extra bit of juice.

Yes, music will kill your battery, you also should go into "about phone" and try and see what is killing your battery. At 15 months your battery should still be decent.

Rooting should have increased battery life when you removed some bloat, but a good rom will help more.

I know I promote them a bit, but why buy Chinese junk when you can have these for a couple bucks more (if even that much)? They are probably the best deals in batteries.

And no, I don't work for them or anything, I'm just a happy user of them.

Contemplating on buying them, but I might move to the EVO sometime in june. Decisions, decisions, decisions :T

Is the difference between the Anker and the regular battery significant?
If so, then 2 batteries plus a charger for $20 is an incredible deal.
If not, it's still a pretty awesome buy.

After I got a spare for my OV, I always try and have a second battery for spare, it's nice and handy. It's especially nice if one suddenly dies, you aren't forced to rush out and pay an insane price locally.

I'm going to switch to Evo V as well (I already have the screen protectors :p), and as soon as I have it in hand, I'm ordering an Anker for it's primary battery and keeping the stock as a backup. I can handle going a short time with only one, but I prefer having a spare battery. It has saved me a lot of headaches while on jobs that run long. I hate thick batteries/phones and I can't move around an office if I have it plugged in because the battery is dead.

It will probably give you about:
10% over a brand new, stock battery.
15%+ over an older stock battery, and tons over a worn out one.
30% over a brand new, generic/junk 1500mah Chinese battery, these are always over-rated and will wear out faster than normal.

10% may not seem like a lot, but it can make a difference in how you get through the day and it still fits inside as opposed to a bulky external protrusion.

Look at it this way, you are going to spend a similar amount no matter what direction you go, unless you buy generic, so why not spend an extra buck or two and get a little extra capacity at the same time. Whether you need it or not, it's nice to have.

Downsides?
You can't get two for the price of one?

Very informative, thanks!!
And, I have one more question, based totally on my paranoia, on amazon it says to stop charging the phone once the battery reaches 100%, but I usually charge during the night so it usually stays 100% for quite a while... is that okay? D:

The phone itself should stop charging the battery once it reaches 100%, so its safe to leave it plugged in.

I already have the Anker external battery. Will check out the replacement.

I always check to see what's depleting the battery, and it's nothing that stands out.

Right now: 2h 13m 5s since unplugged, battery is down to 68%. I've texted, checked some internet, placed a couple calls. GPS is on, Wifi & Bluetooth are off. Gallery is at the top of the battery list at 35%, followed by Voice calls and Cell Standby, both at 17%.

It's all a mystery to me.

GPS isn't usually on, but I've been using CardioTrainer for the past few days. I'm on vacation this week, so my usage isn't typical. I'll keep an eye on it next week to see how it fares under normal conditions.
