Help Battery dieing extremely fast

Hi all,

My wife has had her Desire HD for a while now and has been very pleased with it. But somethnig strange has happened. When she went to bed on sunday night her phone was at 90% charge and when she woke up it was completely flat.

Today she went to work at 8:30 with her phone fully charged at 100% and at about midday (14:00) it was completely dead.

This is just a recent event as it's been working finr before. She had to charge it every night, but lasting from 8:00 to 23:00 is more than good enough, but 8:00 to 14:00 is pretty poor.

Any ideas?

She installed any new apps recently? Could be badly coded rogue app that's constantly running and eating up battery.

She could try calibrating the battery too, see if that makes a difference?

Also, make sure that other unnecessary apps are off. I am a new DHD user too and turning off wifi and sync when im at work helps out my battery life.

Thanks for the replies people. She has everything off even the screen brightness and has not downloaded any new apps in the last few weeks.

Maybe i have to do a ractory reset.

Try El Presidente suggestion

If not, disable your HTC account. You can do this by going to settings -> account & sync -> HTC Sense and uncheck everything. Reboot the phone and see what happens

Sounds like a rogue application.

Find that and uninstall it.

Don't bother calibrating the battery. It doesn't make any difference.

check the GPS, WLAN and 3G if is on. They take more power even than some games.
Brightness and non-static wallpaper takes power.
Background syn. and all auto-update that use any network take a lot of power.

Ok i checked the battery usage today and it's saying that Android System is using 80% of the system power.

When i click on Android System it says the CPU has been active for 5 hours??

Ok i downloaded a CPU Usage monitor onto both my wifes phone (Desire HD) and my own phone (Desire Z).

My wifes phone spends all the time pegged at 100% CPU usage. My CPU usage bounces between 1% and 50%, but spends most of the time idling at 2%.

Seeing as the CPU is at 100% constantly it's not wierd her battery life is appaling. I've looked through all 3rd parts apps and she only has:

Facebook
Adobe Flash 10.1
Youtube
Gmail
SmsPopup
Maps
Market

I have no idea what's causing 100% CPU load all the time.

**update**
I did a factory reset and it's back to normal now, but i did notice something strange in the logs.

It kept showing an error while trying to connect to this site: org.apache.harmony.luni.internal.net

That error was taking up the whole log and was most likely the problem. Now it's gone after the factory reset thank god!
