Battery door opening suggestion

With the battery door being so difficult to get off (it absolutely is), I tried using a nickel and it popped right open. Use this method at your own risk as I suppose you could scratch the metal body and/or mar the plastic door. Wouldn't hurt to put a thin piece of paper or plastic between the coin and door as well. A nickel probably works best since it has more if an edge to it than other coins.
 
I've read that using a small screwdriver behind the volume rocker actually works well. Can you confirm this? Will it lead to volume rocker failure? Thanks.
 
I was able to stick my fingernail in between the body and door and it popped open. So glad I was because the salesguys were having a hell of a time and I was afraid they'd ding it up.
 
The poor poor girl at Best Buy had a hell of a time getting our covers off. Spent a good 2-3 minutes hacking away at each one. Luckily there are no scratches, etc.

I used a very small (thin tip) screwdriver for watch repairs and used it to lift above the volume control and then the rest was easy. Also no damage to the cover.
 
do you think I could ask the guys at AT&T to not try to open it? I don't want them to scratch my phone, I'd want to do it carefully at home? Do they have to open it or turn it on?

when i got my phone from costco i told the guy there no need to open phone coz i will be going home later so will be using old phone till then. they where fine with it
 
I scratched the side a tad when I was trying to get it open. You can barely notice it.. Honestly to me its just a phone, I'll keep it maybe 2 years max and it will inevitably get a scratch or blemish on it during that time.

I am actually glad i got that first one over and done with and that I did it, now I won't baby the damn thing like I do with most new electronics for the first few weeks.
 
Fingernail between the volume rocker and the door was the best way I found to get mine off. Prying in that spot causes the door to flex a little which helps the latches release. Don't know if I'd recommend this for routine access, but for the first time this seems like one of the least destructive methods.
 
The AT&T rep at the store where I got mine said they use the head of a thumbtack in the slot to open them. He didn't have to wrestle with it for very long.

The rep at AT&T that was at the register next to the woman helping me had an Inspire and when she was opening mine, she asked him for help. He said the best way is to use your fingernail between the door and the volume rocker. She let him do it and he got it off in under 5 seconds, with no marks or anything.
 
Thanks everyone! Fingernail between the volume rocker and the battery door worked for me, too. 5 seconds (if even that) and no scratches.
 
Mine is so easy to get off. I just gently pop mine off with a fingernail. You guys must all have gotten bad battery doors.
 
Well since I have short fingernails I used a old trick that I found long ago. A bass guitar pick! They're only like 25 cents a piece and since I play bass or have in the past anyway I have a few laying around.
 
Don't try to open it by prying in the slot. Use your fingernail in the seam a little closer to the same end and it will come off easy.

I just got my Inspire 4G Red, Thursday and one of the first things I did was try and open the battery door and to my surprise the door was easy as pie with a finger nail. I was expecting a hard time after reading all the post of problems, non for me.:)

But yeah, I am usually able to pry a fingernail next to the volume rocker, but I can just imagine one day the plastic's gonna simply snap in half.
 
not sure about y'all but i can pop off my battery cover and put it back on extremely easily. i wedge my fingernail in the groove meant to open it (next to the - sign on the volume thing) and give it a gentle wiggle. putting it back in is even easier, just pop it over and make sure everything in place (so that the edges are correctly aligned).
