Battery Drain FIX

Ok so heres the deal...I have had my Optimus V for about a month and a half. I have had major battery drain ever since I opened the box...For example, I would charge my cell after work up to 100% then unplug before going to sleep...In the morning when I get up for work the phone is dead (sound familiar?)...Also im not running any live wallpaper...About 5 widgets....The battery on this phone is shit and along with that it seems the software has a major flaw somewhere along the line...

NOW:
I charge my phone to 100% and unplug before going to sleep...In the morning when I wake up I have lost 9% of battery...Total battery juice in the am? 91% instead of 0% dead...This includes Live wallpaper running all night and about 6 widgets running....

All I did was root the phone using the oneclick method....Then uninstalled all the VM bloatware crap like twitteroid where and others (by using titanium backup)...Then moved all non essential apps to sd card (titanium)...Then installed a program called Setcpu for root users...Within that program i created a profile that underclocks my phone while its asleep.

Setcpu allows you to customize when and how your phone uses its processor allowing you to create profiles for different occasions... I hope this helps...

Welcome to the forums, Nycokla.

Underclocking the CPU is probably the only think that impacted your battery drain positively. The moved apps/widgets to the SD card would not do that, nor would the deletion of bloatware, unless one or more of the bloatware items were syncing or updating in the background, which could have been remedied via configuration in those app's menus.

The problem with virgin mobiles bloatware is that it constantly tries to connect to 3g in the background...in turn eating away at your battery..

Does it do this if you have never run the programs? I have never once run twitdroid or where, and as far as I can tell they don't even show up in my task manager app (system panel).

from what I have heard from numerous people, when you run some app monitor programs you can see that these unused bloatware programs still sync and use your network reguardless..plus the fact that they dont let you delete them is scetchy

Since you guys, brought up Twidroyd, I'm going to force it closed and keep it that way. I wanna see if that has any effect on the battery.

maxpower49, you can close Twidroyd down in Settings...Applications...Manage Applications...Under the Running tab...scroll to the bottom. Where app is located under the All tab.

I think I'll just turn off the phone every night...that way I won't have to wake to a dead battery.

i forced closed it many times but since its in the bowels of virgin mobiles software, somehow it creeps back up and becomes active....I also ended up deleting VM downloads, VM live and some SWSM? app

If you arent rooted then you should get Titanium Backup Pro and freeze any apps you think are running down the battery.

If you are rooted you should install Root explorer and navigate to system/app and delete the apps/bloat you dont want or need.

I have a rom with the bloat removed but I still removed the stock mail and gmail app (installed k9 mail) deleted the stock music player (installed the motorola droid music player) and deleted stock mms (installed handcent) also I deleted the stock calendar (installed jorte)

I basically froze any app in Titanium Backup Pro, made sure that there were no issues with the phone for a day or two, then deleted the app off the phone. It gave me more space on the phone itself and better battery life.

I also have a profile set on setcpu that throttles my processor down to 320mhz when the screen is off, this saved a bit of battery life as well.

Twitdroid does not show up for me at all under the "running" tab. I'm assuming that is because I never launched the app or logged in so it doesn't have a twitter account to sync in the background? I'm not sure. According to my task manager app (system panel), it never uses an CPU or battery. Same with the "where" app that a lot of people complain about.

chances are they will not show up under the stock application running viewer...I believe that if you were to get a 3rd party app performance and battery reader, it will read what apps are using battery and how often .... Im not sure that when i looked under ther stock setting app that i saw twitteroid running or ever but i know where" was deff suckin battery and data

As i stated in my previous posts, I do have a 3rd party battery/task managing app. It is called "system panel." Twitdroid doesn't show up in there.
