Battery drain issue

Hello I just got my Samsung captivate in the mail. The phone was dead when it arrived so I Charged it to 100%. I have turned off wifi, gps, sync have black background, no bluetooth etc. It was fully charged at 7am. Its now 11:30 am and its at 36%. Display using 95% usage (set to lowest brightness and auto off), standby using 4% and idle using 1%. I have had the screen on for 46 mins 45 secs and its already dead. It's not going to last the entire work day and I am not very impressed. Is there anything I can do?

It does seem to be draining way too fast. I'd try a new battery. If that doesn't take care of it, then you should swap out your phone for a replacement.

Update:

I had Mercury messenger on the entire time.

I have now uninstalled it and the battery level seems to be sitting at 17% for roughly 30 mins with sending a couple texts.

I searched online for roughly an hour last night and found something that worked.

1. Plug in your phone while its turned on, let it charge to 100%
2. Turn off the phone, plug it in and let it charge until 100%
3.Turn on the phone, then turn it off, let it charge until 100%
4. Turn on phone.

It actually worked. My battery isn't draining at all. Somehow that reset the battery or something.
