Help Battery drain while the phone is on stanby

ammartjr

Newbie
ok so i just purchased a samsung galaxy core prime 2 days ago and the battery life is horrible ,it drains on standby like 4% an hour without doing nothing however when i use it while the screen is on it doest really drain alot it gives me about 35min of screen on which uses about 5% of battery , i turned of almost all settings that could eat up my battery sync ,wifi ,gps etc but i havent found any solution , i also rooted and deleted bloatwares and stuff still no luck

4% an hour isn't too bad but the reason could be because you're out when the screen is off? And if you're in a poor signal area that will drain the battery faster

i went to sleep last night at around 12am the battery was at 93% and woke up at 9am and it dropped to 63% and wen i checked the battery stats it didnt really show what is using the most ,the screen on was at the top with about 20%

Hmm that does seem a bit extreme I suppose and I don't have a solution but I keep my phone plugged in overnight, every night.
It doesnt damage the battery and probably costs about a penny/cent a month :thumbsupdroid:

The screen on usage seems too good to me if anything. 5% in 35 mins = 100% in 700 mins.

Sounds like your built in battery monitor isn't being helpful though. Try installing GSam Battery Monitor, charge the phone before going to bed then leave it off charge overnight, then see what is using the power (monitors usually measure usage since last charge, so this way you'll only see what was going on overnight rather than that and your usage mixed together).

It may not be GPSD itself, but rather something else that is constantly requesting high accuracy location despite GPS being off (see this post, by the current maintainer of GPSD). Certainly that daemon shouldn't be doing that unless something is making the requests.

One thought: I did come across a few articles saying that on the S3 this problem was often caused by Samsung's "remote location service". Since you have a Samsung too it might be worth checking whether you have that, and turn it off as well if it is there. Or even turn location on and see whether it reduces the drain (if the problem is an app polling for location constantly because it can't get it - though they shouldn't do that, so it would be better to find out which is responsible and stop it).

i have uninstalled almost all apps but its still draining , i have no clue whats going on i also removed all apps installed by samsung still no luck , i want to do a factory reset but i am scared becsause i have rooted my phone and deleted some bloatwares ,will it brick my phone if i factory reset it?

Can you check which apps have the permission to use location, and to use fine location (GPS)? "Addons Detector" will let you do this. Since you are rooted one of the "Ap Ops" type apps (permission management) should let you both see what has those permissions and deny the apps access to them.

All a factory reset does is delete user-installed apps and all app data. That shouldn't stop the phone working. But before trying that, you could try wiping cache and dalvik (I'm assuming you have a custom recovery to let you do that second without needing to do a factory reset).

i am going to give it a try and let you know , i read somewhere that my telecom network could also be the cause of gpsd so i changed my sim to a another provider to see if that fixes

i dont have custom recovery installed on my phone because i couldnt find one for my phone though i have the stock recovery ,i tried wiping partition cache it didnt help i will try it again
