Battery Drain

Every other day I find a point where my phone went to the lock screen but didn't sleep. My battery gets low, less than 15%. Anyone else been seeing this lately? It's been a pretty recent issue
 
Sounds like you might have an app that has a 'no sleep' option that's checked. I've got a couple of those on my phone, I always make sure to set it so that the phone can go to sleep. Take a look at any new apps, or any apps where you were wandering through their settings recently. Maybe you accidentally changed a setting you hadn't intended to.

I find that too. I can't figure out what it is either. It happens at random times of the day, but usually around mid afternoon. I then turn off the phone and all is well until the next time. Everyone says it's an app, however, why only certain times of the day and why not always?

That being said, someone pointed to Handcent which could be true. Except, there was an update last night and now it's not happening. I'm at a loss on this but it is definitely a problem that will drain a battery rapidly.
 
I also have Handcent which I updated last night and it still happened. Good thing my boss had a miniusb charger!

It wouldn't be so bad if I hadn't lost my car charger. I'll have to look to see what other apps I have that could have done it.

I think Seesmic and Newsrob are the only new apps I have recently and I'm trying to mess with the settings on those.
 
check all apps like that ....... anything that does background updates...... see what your sync intervals are............ I was losing battery fast before I realized I had mail and weather updating in the background every few mins

Found another post regarding Handcent popup. I disabled it and so far I haven't had an awake time issue all day. I don't have Seesmic or Newsrob.
 
I didn't use the popup on handcent. I messed with the Newsrob and Seesmic settings. And I told mail to only update manually, I only use it for work anyway and use Gmail for personal mail. We'll see if it makes a difference
 
I had a battery drain today. First time I have eperience this particular problem. Phone was noticeably hot in my pocket, took it out, turned it on and off, checked the ignore list on app killer, did all kinds of other stuff, but in the end it didn't help. Battery drained within the hour.

Earlier in the day I was getting fed up with sluggish behavior, so I took a few apps off the app killer ignore list. I also put twitter on the ignore list and had it update every five minutes (it's the US GP, so there's a lot going on and I wanted to stay in touch). This might have been the issue, won't know until the battery recharges tomorrow. Almost chucked it at the ground.:D
 
I've been having battery drain issues and a warm eris because of it lately. Happened 3 times this week and I cant figure out what it is!

The only thing I noticed last time it happened is that Android System is using most of the battery.

I find it interesting that many people seem to be having it at the same time which signifies that it is some sort of app at fault here.

When I reboot the problem goes away.

I was worried it was due to rooting!
 
I tried putting everything back as it was. No luck so far. Phone has been on for about 30 min and already showing a chunk of battery missing.

Question: does putting a bunch of folders filled with apps/bookmarks on the home screen take up battery?

I also changed my wallpaper from one of my photos to one of the stock wallpapers. Should that matter?

God, I hate this thing.
 
Have you been someplace you don't usually go to? If you spend an extended period in an area with a weak signal, the phone will use power trying to latch onto a stronger signal. All Verizon CDMA phones do this, not just the Eris. I put the phone into airplane mode when I'm going to spend an extended period in an area with little-to-no signal, like the subway or a basement. Saves battery.
 
I think I may have been premature on the last post. Phone seems to be back to normal.

When I took almost all of the apps (including chomp) off the ignore list, I would let the phone go to sleep, wake it up, and then hit the app kill button. It would come up saying "0 apps killed, 90M memory available." I've never had that much available memory. My understanding of "0 apps killed" is that nothing was running/updating in the background. And the battery drains.

So I put all the apps that I took off the ignore list back onto the ignore list. (Didn't change update intervals.) Now I hit the app kill button and it says "0 apps killed, 39M memory available." That is what I'm used to seeing.

So, when I turned everything off, I had the most memory available I have ever had and the battery drained in an hour. I put a bunch of apps back on the ignore list, have one third of the available memory, and my battery last all day, through moderate use.

Why is that? Does it seem counterintuitive to anybody else?
