Help Battery draining

Foxspeed

Android Enthusiast
Since my phone over-heated and cut out for approx 20mins, the battery now only lasts 4 hours with full charge and minimal usage. A new battery was fitted and lasts the same amount of time even after a factory reset.
Either something has been damaged or the software is corrupt, so could rooting my phone possibly rule out any issues?

Its my last throw of the dice before throwing it in the bin.

You could try to RUU it (re install android). Also could try and trick the battery stats by doing battery "calibration". Google that

Thanks SU.

I have tried the calibration a few times with both batteries to no affect. I have basic settings such as low brightness, no wifi, minimal apps etc. but there's obviously something wrong.

I am a novice with these phones (well sort of) and unfamiliar with RUU and rooting but a workmate is quite good and his has been rooted for a long time. He has had two weeks off work but will be back on Monday and I have asked if he will root the phone for me to see if it helps but I will ask him about the RUU 'fix' first.
What really bothers me is I don't want to upgrade this October because I'm happy with my Desire and would like to hang on for something that might be better next year!

Thanks for the help, its really appreciated and sorry that I have spanned this problem out over a few threads. Desperation kicking in and tired of other colleagues telling me to get an iphone !!!

No worrires.

RUU is basicallt the official ROM Upgrade Utitility. Its a true factory reset in that it wipes all data (like a factory reset) but reinstalls android, recovery, hboot, radio all back to how it came. Its like a new installation of windows on a pc. If that and a new battery doesn't fix it, nothing will. Its pointless going the root route IMHO, RUU first.

Its dead easy too. Just download the correct ruu to your pc, (its an .exe) tun it as an admin, connect the phone with usb and follow the steps on the screen.
