Help Battery Drains fast

Can someone tell me how i can stop some of the services because when I go to-manage applications-r
unning then stop them, they start again for instance it said maps, voice talk,3 widgets, email were running so I stopped them then they start again lol.

Lots of wakelogs. Get betterbatterystats from market to see if can identify the process that cause the wakelogs. I noticed if you don't have wifi and 3G on, there are a lot less wakelogs, indicating certain apps are using data/wifi for updates, sync etc.

That said, draining 1% per hour is not that bad since you are using it. Screen takes up most of the power which seems right.

Good luck

Have downloaded that app and will give it a try - looks complex however I dont kno0w what I'm looking at or for????

I uninstalled Kik and Skype last night as well as Maps location and email sync etc.
I switched off WIRELESS and SYNC too. All was good until 3-6am when the phone was awake for a long long time !!!!

As soon as I turned wireless on (not sync) the phone did its usual waking up when sleeping routine again!- even when wireless was told not to activate when screen was off!

My running services are minimal - I have a feeling its the OS !

What the hell is going on?????

Maps & voice talk have been known not to be able to shut down properly in 2.3.3 and to keep it from restarting, I usually needed to clear the RAM after closing the app, and if that does not work, to reboot the phone. That usually clears it up until you use maps and voice talk again. Cannot stop it unless rooted. Problem seems to have cleared up after I updated to 2.3.6

Widgets if on your homescreen will technically be on all the time. Same with email. Some widgets aren't very good in the sense that they hog data as well as battery.

I not sure how to read everything about BBS. It just gives an indication. Select partial wakelogs and look at which apps gives the worst case. If you know which is the rogue app, at least you know which app to uninstall if you want.

Anyway, looks like your phone is behaving.... mostly. Even the wakelog isn't really eating too much of your battery. Are you using app like Juice Defender to tell the phone to off the data when screen is off? I never found it to work very well for me. I set up a toggle to on and off data when I want to. Or you can long press on the power button and off the data from there. Try that and see if that helps too.

Cheers

Thanks both. I think I might have identified one thing - Google Maps. It has a wake lock called Network Location Locator that has a high count and use as well as WiFi service that matches the use time also.

There is no way to disable this Maps service!

I think for some reason the 2.3.6 update and the New Maps service (also up to date) don't like each other because it was never like this in 2.3.4.

I set in advanced options for WiFi to swithc off on screen off however this is being overridden so must be related.

It cant be much else because I have little installed. Mail is set for manual update and Weather is set for manual too. Account sync is also off. I have no battery or power saving either.

I have rolled back the maps update and turned off Location via network to see.

I had enough and decided to re-flash 2.3.6 but the latest Italy version from this year. I9100XILA2 I9100OXIKK1

Have to say its massively better! Battery has improved and whatever the problem was has gone away.

This Gingerbread version is excellent too - seems faster than the other 2.3.6 I used and has some UI changes like the lock screen etc. Its very smooth and fast.

So Far So good... will stick this out now until a official stable ICS comes out.

:)

Late8 what app are you using to get those graphs? AH found it! Hadn't discovered that screen before - very useful

I have both the Galaxy S2 and the iPhone 4s and I am doing a very simple test. They were both fully charged and actually I unplugged the iPhone 30 minutes before the Galaxy and this is what I have for the battery right now:
iPhone - unplugged at 630am = 100%
Galaxy - unplugged at 715am = 100%
Current Time: 947am
iPhone - 94%
Galaxy - 79%
I barely used each of these devices, checked status.

I noticed this yesterday around 4pm I was checking the status and it was at 30% and the iPhone was at 89%. The both are connected to my work's exchange server and wifi but I am very disappointed with this battery life.

The reason I have both - Galaxy was given to me by work and the iPhone is my preference.

I purchased Juice Defender Plus but I didn't want to have my exchange server checked every 15 minutes, it might be too late to respond to a work issue if it doesn't update me when I receive the email (personal preference). It just seemed everything was delayed and I don't think that is they way I want my phone to work.

Yes the s2 battery isn't as good as other smartphone.. This is already known. One killer is the fact a lot of applications run in the background even when you think you close them.
The OLED display uses more power too on white simple web surfing is a extra drain compared to LCD screen.

Ok, now the weird part. After it got down to 66% I decided to just charge it. After charging back to 100% I unplugged it and just let it sit for the past hour - it only dropped 1%. I did turn it off and then back on before I charged it but didn't think anything of it but it seemed to make a difference. I am going to continue to watch but will take any ideas.

Yesterday I caught the battery usage graph in a hung state. It said 3hrs on battery and 89%, several hours later it still said 3hrs on battery and 89%.

The battery gauge app I am running said 21%!

The usage is still very variable. On Weds I went the whole day with several calls and some 3G and it only dropped to 80% Go figure!
Obviously there are some apps that keep running some times. Might be time to get the Better Battery Stats app. :-)

Life shouldn't be this complex!
