Accessories Battery for Droid X

How can you tell when you buy an extra battery for the Droid X that it is not an limitation versus a OEM by Motorola? I have read where some of the junk out there will not even charge with the Droid.

Well number one rule, if it's too cheap to be real, it's fake. Amazon has a battery listed as OEM Motorola for $7.99. Many have said it is in fact 100% authentic and it works great, others say it doesn't work. But with Amazon, returns are easy. If you want to be 100% sure, by it from Motorola. If you want to gamble on ebay, look for OEM and 100% authentic listed in the details of the item-check the sellers feedback for negatives left for batteries not working-I never buy from less than 99% feedback. And you can also ask them before you buy it-is this real? If it's not will you pay for return shipping?

The major problem is when the 2.2 update OTA came out it made the after market batteries worthless. The aftermarket batteries did not have a chip that would monitor chip temp and discharge rate. I had a cuple of aftermarket batteries that worked as well as my oem but now there worthless. I have since ordered from ebay aftermarket batteries designed for 2.2 and later. They should be here any day so I'll let you guys know how they perform.

Got the aftermarket batteries Sat. They do work fine. I have just started using it but it seems to hold a charge a little better after each charge. Let everyone know more in a few days. 2 batteries and a wall charger $8.99

Were the batteries listed as compatible with 2.2? Many older aftermarket batts won't work on your phone if it has 2.2.

Yes, they were listed as 2.2 compatible. The batteries work fine they charge well and the X gives you accurate discharge reading. HOWEVER.....
these aftermarket batteries last about half as long as my oem. I normally plug my X in at bedtime after I use it to read. It normally has about 30-40 percent remaining. Use it for various things all day and then repeat the process. With the aftermarket I 'm lucky to get past lunch before I need to charge again. I will keep the batteries for emergencies but no way will they replace my oem.

excellent info to have. that being the case, I think I'll pony up the extra dough and just get the VZW oem extended battery instead.

I read a study about third party batteries a while back that tested several different brands. None of the non-OEM batteries actually lasted as long as there mAh rating they were given. Seidio was the best, but even it came in at 75-85% capacity of its advertised size.
