Help Battery issue

My phone the last few days, is running fine, however, the batter will literally shoot down out of nowhere from like 50-15 or something like this, very randomly. Any ideas why? It dropped from 56-36 today. On the battery map the line just drops straight down. Any ideas?
 
This is happening to an awful lot of people on here lately man. Wonder if you all have something in common... a carrier update or something?
 
Its just strange how seemingly this month a lot of people are having the same problem. ive seen it on g+ too. A dude in this forum tried literally everything and i dont think hes cured it
 
I'm thinking hardware, still. Try the normal stuff, like battery and chargers, then move to cleaning contacts on the phone and the charging port.
 
Recenyly my Galaxy S2 has started eating the battery. One charge was good for couple of days but not anymore. Have turned off all unused radios and gps, disabled location services, uninstalled all power hungry apps and disabled all unnecessary syncs but still lose more than 5% an hour when not being used! Can't't get through a day without charging now, next to useless.
 
How long have you had your phones? Have you tried buying a new battery?
Generally speaking (very generally!), phone batteries start to deteriorate around 1.5 years in of use. I found a small boost with my Gnex when I got a new battery around that time.
Erasing battery stats may help give you a better idea, but AFAIK it requires root.

Last night my phone also dropped the best part of 30% in the 7 hours overnight when usually I would expect about 5%. Although both phones were purchased at the same time in January we have very different usage patterns so I doubt if it's a mechanical issue. My suspicion would therefore be an update to a pre installed app or similar.

my phone is brand new. version 4.1.2. it drops about a percent a minute. was looking at these forums to see if this is normal. Also wondering if their are any apps to combat this

Do you mean while using the phone or with the screen off? Either way it should never drop that fast mate
Tbh i think you should be looking at which apps to delete instead of adding another :thumbup:
 
This is normally caused by a battery saving app.
(well.. it was for me)

If you have Battery Guru, uninstall it. If you don't, I can no longer help you my fellow Android Warriors.
 
A good idea would be to boot into safe mode, watch it discharge and see if it still happens. If it doesnt then its an app youve installed causing it :beer:

All i have is gsam and always have and it never caused a problem.

It doesn't even happen that often and it jumped to 73 after being on the charger for 10 minutes... Wtf
 
If i understand things at all then if youve tried safe mode, tried a different charger, tried a reset, tried a reflash, a new battery.. then it must be the phones hardware causing it so returning it is the only option man :(

Same charger haven't done a factory reset though... Don't really want to
 
Yeah definately. At the very least the first graph and list in the stock battery stats and the second page (tap on the graph) :thumbup:
 
When this happens to me, I look at a couple of things. First, I peek at GSam Battery Monitor to see if there's any processes consuming an unusually high amount of CPU time. Lately, on my Verizon S3 running VRBMB1, I can see SDM_something_or_other causing a high number of partial wakelocks and chewing up CPU time (and thus battery). I *think* this process has something to do with OTA updates, which I keep deferring to stay on MB1.

The second thing I check is "System Settings" -> "Developer Options" -> "Show CPU usage". This can help identify a runaway process. I'll see something called "gsiff_daemon" occassionally here in the red.

If SDM is the culprit, I'll clear the SDM app's data, force stop it and reboot the phone. If gsiff_daemon is causing me grief, I'll just reboot the phone. These actions successfully stop these processes from hogging CPU and eating my battery.

Idk of any runaway apps that cause massive amounts of battery drain in the blink of an eye. Literally one second for it to go down 40% that isn't normal.
