Battery Issues... gone?

HI guys,
new to the forum and to android phones. I was starting to stress a little because i just got my phone on friday night and yesterday it was dead by 6pm and same thing today with average use. im on the phone alot during the day at work and i was starting to wonder if i'd made a mistake. but it sounds like after a few days the battery life is improving. what do you guys suggest- letting it run down all the way before charging during these first few days or can i keep it charging in the car while im driving? i just want it to have its chance to go thru the cycles you guys were mentioning. thanks for the feedback!

Here are links from researching:

Apple - Batteries

While Li Ion batteries do not have a "memory" effect like older batteries or car batteries, apparently they do have a small warm up period and need to be used. Check the right side of apple's page.

Battery Facts and FAQ's - BatteryMart.com

Many sites I've read say that a few charges and discharges break them in but then below discuss the memory effect and state it doesn't apply to Li Ion batteries. Memory applies to all batteries which crystalize. When a car battery drains the chemicals chrystalize and it takes a large Voltage to reverese this. This is why a car battery is ruined if left dead, and small amounts of crystalization are what cause the memory effect. (But phone batteries don't do this).

This guy says because of no memory they do not need to be primed. I'm wondering if these are two different effects though.

These guys deal with batteries on planes, which they know a lot about. Some claim that breaking them in causes them to run cooler which makes it more effecient. (Have you noticed yours runs cooler now? I have, but it's probably a confirmation bias)

Made it through 2 days with my battery. Took it off charge at 8am yesterday, still had 100% at noon and got to 22% by 8pm tonight. That's leaps and bounds over where I was before. Usage less yesterday, but still pretty regular. Much better than out of the box a couple weeks ago.

Now if I could just get stutter free music playback.

my phones been unplugged for 14 hours now and im only down to 55% battery with wifi connected the whole time. i havent really used my phone that much during that time though.

Ive been disconnected for 14.5 hours and im at 77%. I will say that its been pretty low usage (a few calls/texts, couple hours of wifi, used a few apps) but it seems much better than it has been for the past couple of days.

I changed some of my settings for the screen and before I was at around 80ish% screen use. Now I am at 51%. I turned all window animations off, set brightness to automatic, screen timeout to one minute, and turned off power saving mode. The whole time I was testing this out I was listening to Pandora with screen auto lock off, and the screen performance got better.

UPDATE:
I completely drained the battery to zero, bit didn't have time to fully charge it. I got to 28% and its been an hour and a half and the battery hasent dropped any, and that's with normal usage.

How does one reset these?

I think he's referring to a factory reset. This will restore the phone to factory (and wipe all user data off). You need to backup your data some kind of way before doing this. Maybe use your gmail account? If you get to the point where you want to/are ready to factory reset the device, here's what you do....

Settings > Privacy > Factory data reset....

This was my first smartphone and I came from a phone I did not have to charge for 6 days at a time. Im adapting quickly though and finding ways to optimize battery. One issue that is killing the life of the battery is signal dead-zones. How do you guys deal with this? The only way I have found so far is airplane mode but I hate to switch that back and forth. Anybody knows a good way to handle this?

I miss that about my old non-smartphones.....and I think airplane mode is your best bet. However, I'd only use it if you're going to be in an area like that for an extended period of time. I'd use it sparingly.
